Description;
The latest Gus and Grandpa title is just as pleasant as the others. Gus and his grandfather really seem to enjoy each other's company, and this comes through in both the simple text and the warm watercolor illustrations. They love to get mail and hope to win ten million in a lottery. However, one morning Gus learns that his grandfather has had a heart attack and is in the hospital. Gus' fears about seeing his grandfather "lying in one of those beds, wearing one of those nightgowns," complete with scary tubes in his arm and nose are sympathetically and realistically portrayed.
Of course, Gus loses his fears pretty quickly when he finds he can make the bed go up and down. Grandpa takes about a week to recover. When Grandpa comes home, and they still haven't won the lottery, they decide that it's worth a lot more to be together again. All in all, a very nice story for newer readers, with accessible illustrations on almost every page.
